Milky Way Cake


6 Milky Way bars
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts

Combine Milky way bars and 1/2 cup of butter in a medium sauce pan and melt over low heat. While candy is melting, prepare batter. In a separate bowl, cream 1/2 cup of butter and sugar until mixture is light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Add flour and baking soda alternately with butter milk stirring, until smooth. Add melted candy, mixing well. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Pour batter into greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until tooth pick comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool a few minutes. Remove from pan.

Cherry Crunch


1 package white cake mix
1 can cherry pie filling
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup melted butter or margarine

Spread pie filling in bottom of a 9 inch pan. Sprinkle lemon juice over pie filling. Combine cake mix, nuts, and melted butter. Sprinkle over pie filling. Bake 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes till golden brown. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Serves 8 to 10.

Prune Cake


1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp nutmeg
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
1 cup stewed prunes

Cream shortening, sugar, and egg yolks. Add flour, powder, soda, and spices. Add alternately with sour milk and prunes. Be sure they are well drained. Pour into well greased and floured pan. Bake 40 minutes for 350 degrees.

English Trifle



1 angel food cake
1 package Strawberries
1 package Strawberry danish desert
1 package Custard jell-o
1 carton whipped cream

Break up cake and place in a 9 by 13 inch pan. Place strawberries over cake. Cook strawberry danish desert and jell-o and cool and add to cake. Add whipped cream on top.

Barbecue Spare Ribs


Brown spare ribs. Bake in oven 2.5 hours at 250 degrees.

Barbecue Sauce:

Mix 1 part of honey to 2 parts of Heinz sauce.

Hamburger Patties


1 lb hamburger
1/2 lb of pork sausage
1 chopped onion
6 slices of sourdough bread soaked in milk
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning
1 tsp Parmesan cheese
1 cup sour dough bread crumbs

Press milk out of bread and add to hamburger. Add eggs, Italian seasoning, cheese, and bread crumbs. Press patties of hamburger in bread crumbs. Fry in oil for about 7 to 8 minutes till brown.

Strawberry Frosting


1 cube margarine or butter
1 package powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1/3 cups frozen strawberries

Chicken and Onion Rice


This is Elaine Wayment Smith's recipe:

8 Pieces of chicken, cleaned and skinned
1 (8 oz) bottle Russian Salad Dressing
1 package dehydrated onion soup mix
1 (8 oz) jar Apricot Jam
Juice of 1 lemon

Place chicken in foil covered pan. Mix other ingredients together. Put in pan and heat and stir together. Spread over chicken. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour. Serve with onion rice.

Onion Rice:

1 cup rice
1 can onion soup
1 can water
1 tbsp butter

Mix together and bake in a scovered saucepan dish for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Stir lightly before serving.

Red Snapper Chowder


3 tbsp butter
1 large sliced onion
1 green pepper
1 clove of garlic
3 diced potatoes
1/3 cup flour
1 bottle of tomatoes
4 cups of water
Bay leaf
Salt
Pepper
Red Snapper

Saute onion, pepper, and garlic in butter. Add flour, tomatoes, water, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Cook for 15 minutes. Add potatoes and cook for 30 minutes. Cut red snapper into pieces and add to soup mixture, stirring until warm.

Chocolate Mint Creams


This is Zig Peacocks's recipe:

6 tbsp butter
1 egg
6 oz semisweet baker's chocolate
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp water
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 lb pastel mint kisses

Melt brown sugar, butter, and water on low heat. Add chocolate. Cook until melted. Let stand 15 minutes to cool. Beat in egg. Stir in dry ingredients and mix well. Chill dough 2 hours. Make 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from oven. Place a mint on top and place back into oven for 2 minutes. Cool until mints are firm.

Flounder with Shrimp


4 fillets of flounder
Salt
Flour
1/2 cup dried bread crumbs
2 eggs
2 tbsp water
8 tbsp butter
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 lb small cooked shrimp, peeled
lemon wedges

Rinse fish in cold water and dry. Salt lightly and dip in flour, shaking off excess. Spread bread crumbs on waxed paper. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and water, then dip each fillet into egg mixture and coat each piece with bread crumbs. Let them sit 10 minutes before cooking. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter and vegetable oil. Saute the fillets for 3 or 4 minutes. When golden brown, remove fillets on to heated platter. In a separate pan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add shrimp and toss them in the butter for 2 to 3 minutes. Place a line of shrimp in center of each fillet.

Basting for Chicken


This is Keith Wayment's recipe

1 cup water
1 cup vinegar
1 square butter or margarine
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Mix all together and put on chicken. Keep basting until done.
